Sowmya Sanapala, MD
Sowmya Sanapala, MD is the Associate Director of Innovation and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM). She joined WCM as a Healthcare Leadership and Management (HLM) fellow in the Department of Emergency Medicine, where she concurrently completed Cornell's Executive MBA and MS degrees and was named a Dr. Lorna Breen Scholar. She also led departmental quality and operations initiatives, and drove research focused on healthcare gaps in non-English language preference (NELP) patients and potential workflow solutions.
Since completing her fellowship, Dr. Sanapala leads an innovation team housed in the Department of Emergency Medicine that actively partners with industry to identify, validate, and implement new digital health technologies and medical devices to advance patient care. She is passionate about fostering leadership in healthcare and serves as Co-Director of the HLM Elective and HLM Scholars' Summer Program, and as an Associate Director for the HLM Fellowship. Dr. Sanapala earned her MD from Stony Brook and completed her residency at Montefiore-Jacobi, where she was a Chief Resident.
